Struggling to figure out what backlinks are? Don’t worry, the nerds at Morepull Media have you covered.

A backlink is a link created when a website links to another. Backlinks are also called “incoming links” or “inbound links.”

Inbound links are an important piece of any pull media strategy.

Backlinks are important to search engine optimization (SEO) for a variety of reasons.

They are especially valuable as to what they represent for the individual company or brand. Often seen as a vote of confidence from one website to another website.

Backlinks to your website are a gesture to search engines that others vouch for your product and/or content.

If multiple reputable sites link to the same webpage, search engines can infer that content is worth linking to and in turn, also worth surfacing on a search engine results page (SERP).

Earning these backlinks should have a positive effect on a site’s ranking position or search visibility.

Some backlinks are intrinsically more valuable then others. Following the links from popular, highly reputable, high-authority sites are considered much more desirable backlinks to earn, while earning from low-authority, potentially ‘spammy’ sites are typically worthless if not close to it. High quality backlinks can be extremely time consuming to earn.

Newer websites or websites that are interested in expanding their keyword footprint may find it extremely challenging to know where to start with link building.

Search engines like Google use backlink as a ranking signal because when one website links to another, it means they think that the content is worthwhile.

There are two basic types of backlinks, and one is more valuable than the other.

No Follow tag communicates to search engines informing them to ignore a link. They do not pass any value from one site to another. Typically they are not helpful in improving your search rank or visibility.

A Do Follow link is the type of backlink that everyone desires, keep in mind that those coming from respected sites hold the most value. This kind of backlink can help improve your search engine rankings. Not all Do Follow links are perfect.

Still many are considered toxic for the links that come from suspicious sites or are gained by breaking the search engine terms of service.

This may cause Google to penalize or even de-index an individual website.

Remember, it’s not about the quantity of backlinks, but rather the quality that truly makes the difference in ranking.

Backlinks continue to be Google’s most powerful ranking signal and should continue to be throughout 2022.

Newcomers to the universe of link building are often overwhelmed, skeptical, and pessimistic about the importance as they have heard nothing but doom and gloom about the state of links for nearly a decade.

It is true that it is incredibly harder now to build relevant backlinks then it was in the year 2007 but that is all fine and dandy with our team here at Morepull Media. It means the link-building industry is now much more focused on high-quality work than churning out a huge number of backlinks each month.

Google has absolutely cut down on link spam and made their SERPs a better place to find information.

You can assess the health of your website’s backlinks by undertaking a backlink audit. Either manually or in the picture below, with Semrush, an SEO software.

In this backlink audit result we ran an audit on our own site Morepull.com

As a side note, a backlink audit should be a part of any blog post SEO checklist.

As you can tell, building backlinks and links to your site to increase ‘domain authority’ is no easy task.

We hope this information was insightful for you.
